Resume: September 2024

Who are the instructors?

During the Covid outbreak, El Tango Collective was formed in Champaign-Urbana (CU), IL  to augment Argentine tango instruction. The "collective" represents a core group of local Argentine tango dancers who share a passion for tango dancing and enjoy teaching fundamental  concepts.

Vision

Before  Covid , Champaign-Urbana, IL was a crucible for  tango events and  activities with weekly club dances, monthly milongas, and much more. These Phillips Center tango classes represent one step in your "tango journey" and will hopefully "jump start" a renewed interest in  our local tango scene.

Expectations

After receiving a basic introduction to Argentine tango dance, music, and culture in this Phillips Center class, we trust you will continue learning Argentine tango with local instructors and attend local and regional workshops.  We hope that you will  embrace tango across identity, class, and generational boundaries to become an integral part of the inclusive CU tango "collective" community.

Why Dance Argentine Tango?

Referred to as “a secret dance shared between two people”, the Argentine tango relies on  collaboration and close connection.  Felt in the heart, not the feet; it is as sexy, as it is passionate. No matter your age or dance experience, YOU will benefit from learning Argentine tango.

What makes Argentine tango different?

The core factors that define tango as a personal dance are examined in this film by Champaign-Urbana, IL filmmaker Johnny Robinson
